Prostitution in Thailand

On May 1^st I was able to attend part of a speaking event put on by Michelle Williams.  When going into this I had heard what the topic was, but I had no idea what it was actually like.  The topic was prostitution in Thailand.  This was a big surprise to me because I do have a few buddies who had visited Thailand before, and really I’m glad to say that they didn’t mention the fact of there being a lot of prostitution happening there.  At least I know that they are a step above some of the people out in the world today. 

Michelle told us about how common it was that women were selling their bodies over in Thailand.  The most amazing part was that she showed pictures.  Some of the women looked young, and some of them looked a little older.  This seemed like it was an all ages type of thing.  I’ve always wondered why women do this?  I’ve also wondered why any man would pay for sex?  It seems like he is kind of making fun of himself because he is unable to just have sex with someone without having to pay for it. 

Michelle kept talking about what was happening in Thailand, and she made it sound like it is so accepted there.  She said that it is, but I don’t understand how they allow it.  The whole time I was there she was feeding me new information that I had never heard before, which made me upset that I had to leave early.  The whole thing was interesting, but also sad that this was happening and also what some of the families will do to make some money.  I wish I could say that people should never do the things that they do, but I don’t know what I would do if I was that desperate.  Guess you never know until you are put in that situation yourself.
